last night in China

it's our last night in China. we drive to Shanghai tomorrow morning and catch our flight in the early evening.

in our last few days in Nanjing:

we did more shopping!
Amy bought a new dress in the underground street market district

Amy got a real haircut at last, at her old hair dresser. she looks the same now as when I first met her. better than the dodgy haircuts I did for her ( on her request )

we hung out in the centre of Nanjing. they have about 25 department stores, all about the size of Belconnen mall. so many shops it's unbelievable.

saw this poor beggar with one leg chopped off, scooting around on a skate board thing, throwing is money bowl around. I took the photo but gave him a coin for the royalties. he gave me a wink...

and we had lunch again with Amy's mate Allan who owns the bars and Nepal restaurants in Nanjing and Suzhou. the food was pretty much the same as Indian but was better than most if not all the Indian restaurants I've been to in Australia. more inventive and better quality.

so it's been a good trip overall in China. many good and bad things about this place. we've got it good back home, but you'd be surprised how some things are actually better over hear. no decent sport though!

home soon

Nanjing street food

sinky tofu (actual translation) stand , how do I know? I could smell the stench of farm animals...

the other food is a sweet steamed bun cooked on the spot

pet shop area part 2

apparently the maggots are for feeding your pet birds or fish

some Chinese people seem to have an obsession for singing insects. there were crickets, cicadas (pic) and the small insects (pic) which have a softer sound

pet shop area part 1

near the tourist area is a pet and plant shop area.

the turtles weren't being kept in the best conditions. some were not looking too healthy.

there's not many birds left in China, but I think I found where they all are. not good to be a pet here, not that bird captivity is nice anywhere.

Nanjing tourist area

a trip to the famous tourist area of Nanjing today and some more shopping.
lunch was traditional Nanjing style snack food called 'Xiaochi'. a bit like Yum Cha, only not as good. hope Amy doesn't read this one. I got in trouble for saying one dish tasted like the bottom of an ash tray. apparently we didn't choose a good restaurant...

a few strange things

a few strange things that amused me.

we had an eerie feeling that the department store had closed and the staff were waiting for us. or it was some scary scene out of Dr Who...

tomato on the mousse dessert, what the...? it's a western restaurant in Nanjing. I suppose we say tomatoes are a fruit..

Amy went to get some underwear. unfortunately the style is a sexy kind of grandma cut... doh!!

shopping days

the last 4 days we stayed with Amy's brothers family on the other side of Nanjing.
days were spent shopping, a lot of shopping, eating more strange things, banquets, free beer's at the bar Amy used to part owner, more shopping and kid getting exhausted from shopping
