I don't think I could ever get used to the ducks tongues. very popular in Nanjing.
when holding the money bag in my chop sticks, it just looked to similar to the 'real' thing
and yet another banquet. I'm losing count now.

Nanjing metro
I was thinking I was lucky I wasn't travelling by myself on the Nanjing subway, no western letters on the station map. ( actually wasn't so bad, the platform and train had the words as well as the Chinese symbols.
no tickets in their system, apparently designed by the French. you get a plastic token. looks so dodgy, but actually easier than a ticket.
very strange at the platform. you don't even realise you are at the platform as it is all hidden behind a wall and doors. very different to the London underground. see last pic.

Amy's brothers home in Nanjing
we are now back in Nanjing, staying with Amy's brother. nice views from the 14th of his apartment.
later took a self ride electric boat on the lake.
saw this guy selling rabbits in small cages on the street. saw worse in another city with kittens barely able to fit in the tiny cage. maybe they want you to feel bad and buy them...?

slave birds
Amy told me these birds aren't pets or going for a ride. they are chained in some way and are trained to dive down and catch fish, which the men extract from their mouth or stomach. the bird gets a small piece of fish for it's reward.

the seaside
yesterday's trip wasn't so great. we went over a very impressive bridge over Hangzhou Bay, connecting the mainland with the peninsula extending down from Shanghai. the bridge us 39km long, built over shallow tidal waters. when we arrived at our destination, the park was to full so we were unable to stop for lunch and we just drove straight back over the bridge. ho hum...
after lunch we went to a popular seaside place on the bay, at low tide which made it look less inviting. I don't think I will return here in a hurry. makes you appreciate the aussie seaside.
you can see a pic of all the grandmothers fussing over Ollee and the kids. it was like a constant fight to get to hold Ollee. could be a challenge to get him home.
